The lawsuit said that Perles became involved when he learned about the alleged rape and "went to great lengths to hide this behavior."

Pearls is now a member of the Michigan State Board of Management and his son says his father does not remember any complaints about an athlete's rape by Nassar while he was in prison. he was athletic director of the school.

The court documents detail Davis's story of how she went to the Michigan State Police Department to report the assault.

"The police told them that since she was an athlete, she had to report it to the sports department," according to court documents. "The detective explicitly told them that he was powerless to investigate everything that goes on in the sports department [sic] and go to the athletics department.

Michigan State University Police Chief Jim Dunlap said the statement was "absurd".

Nassar is currently in a Florida federal penitentiary serving a 60-year sentence on federal child pornography charges. He was also sentenced to a 40 to 125-year prison term in the state of Michigan for seven counts of first-degree sexual misconduct.
