COLUMBUS, Ohio – The rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State football is played out every year with a presumption of unpredictability.

Rankings, recordings and statistics are of secondary importance to history, emotions and momentum. It was Saturday again when Ohio State No. 10 beat Michigan No. 4 62-39 in a game that did not take place as one would have imagined. No one expected the state of Ohio to become dominant like this on the dashboard.

It was the most points scored by either team in the modern history of rivalry.

The win allowed the Buckeyes to win the Big Ten East title and send them to the conference championship match next week against Northwestern. Again, we hope to participate in the playoffs of college football.

The game had unusual twists, including Michigan scores two touchdowns in six seconds towards the end of the first half, and Ohio State responding with a seven-part practice and 41 seconds to give a goal.

The match had an unsung hero in Ohio freshman Chris Olave. Upon entering the party with five receptions, Olave caught two touchdown passes and blocked a punt that led to a touchdown in the third quarter of the Buckeyes.

The game had some unlikely occurrences: the Michigan defense, exceptional all season long, made nets run throughout the fight. The Ohio state defense, inconsistent throughout the season, has concocted a handful of big games.

Here are three observations on the seventh consecutive Ohio State victory over Michigan:

Is it the most dynamic offensive of the nation? Dwayne Haskins ripped the country's No. 1 defensive team. Haskins has consistently found seams in Michigan high school, making five touchdowns to set a new 41-pass TD Big Ten record per season. Exalted defensive playmakers from Michigan could not put much pressure on Haskins. The Wolverines had no bag against Haskins in the first three quarters.

Throughout the game, Haskins touched very open receivers, who were crossing the field.

As if Haskins' production was not enough, Parris Campbell stopped the 78-yard touchdown test. The Buckeyes gave the defensive aspect to Michigan.

What you saw against Michigan is a defensive unit that has created enough big games to win a very important game. The Buckeyes fired Shea Patterson three times in the first three quarters. Malik Harrison had a bag and two tackles for the loss.

Pete Werner grabbed his right hand around Zach Gentry in Michigan to bring down what appeared to be a touchdown pass.

The blocked kick, picked up by Sevyn Banks in the end zone, was a demoralizing event for the Wolverines.

Michigan fans thought they would make their first trip to Indianapolis and had the opportunity to participate in the college football playoffs. These hopes are dead. The Wolverines (10-2) had an outstanding season under most definitions, but in Michigan, a loss to Ohio State Mans had an unsatisfactory season.

Meanwhile, Meyer's legend grows up in Ohio State. The only question is whether he'll retire to treat medical problems.
