The Tampa center said the victims had all been attacked in Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Polk counties.

If a hot caterpillar lands on you, use a piece of paper to remove the insect, instead of brushing it.

Although the sting may be painful, it is not life-threatening. Some victims may need to go to emergency for treatment.

Caterpillars, which tend to live in oaks, are unclear, but they have a venomous spine that can burrow into the skin.

If you are stung by any of these creatures, contact FPIC at 800-222-1222 for advice on first aid and how to remove the venomous spine without consulting a doctor.
