The Sydney bride has been victim of a honeymoon in the United States

Joseph and Francheska Bechara were married in Darlington on October 7, before settling in New York for three weeks to celebrate their union.

But after only two days in the Big Apple, Joseph, 28, found Francheska, 27, unconscious in a gym, Saturday.

The elementary school teacher was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital before the doctors told him that his new wife had suffered multiple strokes.

Francheska has undergone three major brain surgeries to reduce swelling, according to a GoFundMe page created by friends for the couple.

She is now facing a four-month recovery in the United States, according to the page.

Joseph is a project manager at Milestone Civil Australia, where his colleagues have mobilized to set up an online fundraiser to pay for Francheska's huge medical expenses.

More than $ 91,000 of the $ 300,000 goal has already been raised.

"Joe has been informed that this would be a three to four month recovery because it is impossible for Francheska to travel," reads the page.

"Joe will need help with accommodation, hospitalization costs (we all know the US health care system is expensive), rehabilitation costs, and living expenses.

"All costs are borne in advance and we want to help Francheska and Joe get through this horrible time."

A friend of the family, Rooney Farah, described the state of Francheska as "tragic and unthinkable".

"God bless him and the family at this difficult time, and give him the strength and help that he so needs," he wrote.

Office manager and friend Sue Richardson, who attended the couple's wedding, said the couple

had just bought a house in the Girraween district of western Sydney and were ready to move in and start their new life together.

"All their life now is who knows, just waiting to see how her healing will unfold, it's just terrible," she said.

Joseph and Francheska met a little over eight years ago in their local church and it was love at first sight.

Sources close to the couple said they saved money for the "perfect wedding" in which more than 700 guests attended the sumptuous affair.

The two mothers of the couple traveled to New York to go to the bedside of Francheska.

The Becharas did have travel insurance and their hospital costs are estimated at about $ 20,000 a day. Daily mail reported.

A charity event and auction will take place in late November or early December at La Montage in Lilyfield, Sydney, to raise funds for the takeover of Francheska.
