AVON LAKE, Ohio – A math teacher at Avon Lake High School resigned this week after the school district learned about texts and other messages between the teacher and a student, according to a letter sent to parents.

Cleveland.com got a copy of the letter sent Thursday by Principal Joseph Mueller, claiming that the school district had "recently been informed of the communication" between a teacher and a student and "took immediate action resulting in the resignation of the student." # 39; teacher. "

Superintendent Robert Scott stated that the teacher was Dan Wilson, a man who has been teaching for over 10 years, coached the boys' golf team and advised the Diversity Awareness Club.

"Schools in Avon Lake City and its teaching staff maintain the highest standards of conduct and professional behavior," Mueller said in his letter. "Sometimes these standards of conduct and professional behavior are not respected and schools in the City of Avon Lake take immediate and effective action to remove the staff member from the classroom and school district, as well as from professional conduct. educators. Mr. Wilson had inappropriate text communications and Facebook Messenger with a girl who was a student at school until the end of the 2018 school year, but is now attending another school, said Superintendent Scott.

Other mathematics teachers are working to provide "positive and flawless teaching support to directly affected students."

"Some extra classes will also change teachers to better serve everyone – a bit like changing during the semester," Mueller wrote. "Changes for these students will take place on Monday, October 1st."

Counselors and Student Services are available to assist students, staff and families, Mueller added.

"Although disappointed, we remain committed to winning the trust of the community and will be sharing communications appropriately," Mueller said at the end of the letter, endorsing "GBED!" his slogan of "gets better every day".
