It's the nightmare that parents of children with life-threatening food allergies protect in every way that ;they know.
Alexi, mother of Kelli Travers-Stafford's mother in Florida peanut allergy. The 15-year-old girl died after eating a chocolate chip cookie that she did not know and that contained peanuts while she was at a friend's house.
In a scary Facebook post, Travers-Stafford asked people to share the story because she said her daughter had made a fatal choice after learning all of her life to make wise choices.
"As a mother who taught her diligently the tricks of what was acceptable and what was not, I feel lost and angry because she knew her limits and knew the packaging. she knew what it was "safe."
Alexi was at a friend's house where her mother believes in a cookie box folded into a box of Ahoy Chips! The cookies have hidden the presence of the cookie. allergic ingredient: Reese's peanut butter cups / fries, mother said
Her daughter's mouth began to tingle and she returned home.
There, two shots EpiPen were administered in anaphylactic shock and stopped breathing.
About 90 minutes after eating the biscuit, Alexi was pronounced dead.
Make allergy labels more visible
Alexi's mother said the warning labels on the products containing allergens such as peanuts should be more visible. His daughter did not see the "little" indicator on the Ahoy Chips! bag with Reese. It's the same color as the bag with only chocolate chips.
Travers-Stafford now claims more distinction on products containing peanuts, saying that what is in place is not good enough
to indicate chunky, fluffy, or regular, but not of any kind. warnings shouting about an ingredient so deadly to many people. Especially children.
Since Alexi's mother shared her story on Facebook, other parents are asking Chips Ahoy's mother house, Mondelez, to sell food containing allergens in various colorful packages. A child died because it was so similar to another product. You can not tell the difference when the product is removed.
