A nurse saw her medical license suspended after authorities discovered she was using a block of prescription drugs to write 104 prescriptions for access to thousands of powerful opioids.

According to documents published by the Tennessee Board of Nursing, Patricia Tillis did not deny the allegations and admitted to writing prescriptions herself for nearly 9,000 hydrocodone tablets and more than 2,880 tablets of Soma, a powerful muscle relaxant.

Tillis, a former nurse at TriStar Centennial's Hughston Orthopedic Clinic, wrote the prescriptions in 2014 from blank prescription blanks. She was fired in 2017 after the discovery of her misconduct.

Tillis' lawyer, Robert Kraemer, says his client was using the drug to treat pain during a previous surgery and that a doctor had told him it was OK. But he then changed his story to the Department of Health.

Kraemer said his client did nothing wrong but he did not have the money to fight it, according to the newspaper.

Both drugs are highly addictive and can be sold on the black market.
