NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio – The Philadelphia Department of Health has discovered a third bat that has been tested positive for rabies over the last four weeks.

Earlier this month, the New Philadelphia City Health Department warned residents after two bats that tested positive for rabies in one week were found.

According to the Tuscarawas County Department of Health Facebook, a third bat was found in the same neighborhood as the second, in the southwestern part of the city.

The Department of Health advises the public to become aware of wildlife in their yards and neighborhoods.

In their message on Facebook, they remind citizens that "bats should never be handled without gloves or any other type of personal protection".

If a sick or dead bat is found, officials say not to touch it because sick animals can react unpredictably.
