Over & Back: failed attempts to win three times in a row
Despite the end of the 2017-18 season with 49 wins, there seemed to be a general malaise around the Trail Blazers and their fans earlier this year. Being criticized in the playoffs can have this effect. Vegas has set a total of 43 wins over / below despite Portland's return of all key players (excuses Ed Davis-stans).
After 10 games, it seems that Portland is still on the verge of fighting for a high playoff standings and worries about the post-season hangover have been misplaced. And the improvement of the bench game has largely contributed to this good start.
Zach Collins, Nick Stauskas, a former lottery player, and Evan Turner, a rebirth player, gave the Trail Blazers a boost. McCollum did not have the task of trying to wear the second unit so far, Terry Stotts having entrusted Turner with the direction of the show. The first returns have been promising, but is it just an example of a small theater? How far can Portland go when they continue to receive contributions when their runners are out?
