David Harbor and Mike Mignola led a panel that conquered fans of the character on Saturday morning.
the Hellboy On Saturday morning, New York's Comic Con panel delighted fans with a first-hand look at Neil Marshall's cinematographic takeover of Mike Mignola – and the ghostly exorcism of Guillermo del Toro.
A two-minute film for the film was shown to an extremely enthusiastic audience, not least because star David Harbor made it clear before it aired that it would not be shared online. Fast-paced and full of activities, the film portrays Hellboy of Harbor as a violent and witty hero who has little patience for the supernatural world around him, or even for other members of the B.P.R.D. (Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense) who are not happy to work with him. "I thought we were supposed to fight monsters and not work with them," says Daniel Dae Kim's Ben Daimio at one point, just so the hero could notice that he's not as impressed by the face of the warrior marked.
The panel, which included Harbor, Kim, Sasha Lane and Mike Mignola – as well as a video appearance of Milla Jovovich teasing her role as the Blood Queen – exposed the difference between this movie and the previous version of Del characters. Toro, who appeared in the movies in 2004 and 2008. Everyone expressing admiration for previous films, a general feeling was that Marshall's interpretation of the character was much closer to the original of comics.
"It's a bit darker and it's a little funnier. Neil is a very funny man and it's something that many people can not see, "said Kim. "The feeling is completely different," said Harbor. "I want to get to the bottom of things Mike, which is for me a horror, even a kind of horror existential. It looks a bit more like Mignola than Guillermo del Toro. "
Speaking of how he approaches Hellboy's role following Ron Perlman's favorite performance, Harbor said, "Even when approaching the character, I was nervous because Ron is iconic and that he is an excellent Hellboy. So, I thought, I'm not going to imitate that. I'm going to do my own thing because I'm not doing what he's doing. My approach was a little lower and dirty. My Hellboy feels a little younger. He has hair, which is a big deal. He has many more troubles inside, he is a little more lost in the universe. He has more what I bring. "
For Mignola, one of the recognized scriptwriters, working on something as true to one's work has an added benefit. "What I'm looking forward to is having the conversation after it's released to see what the next movie is," he said. "I'm really excited to be part of these conversations. This version is so close to the comic that we can return to the comic to choose what will happen next. "
Marshall, who was not present at the roundtable, was congratulated by his stars and Mignola, who repeatedly mentioned his sensitivity to collaborators. "It was really nice. When the producers started talking about Neil, they asked me if I would write an email telling him I wanted him to do the movie, "said Mignola. "I thought, what the heck would he care about I think? "But I think he's really grateful."
Harbor said that Marshall was "a very good director, especially for horror films. He knows how to make fears and monsters, which is great for that. It's a monster movie, more than a superhero movie.
Hellboy will be published in April 2019.
