FLORHAM PARK – The injury virus crashed at the Jets this season and did not let him go.

But Thursday, there was at least good news.

Top cornerback Trumaine Johnson, who has missed the last five games due to a quad injury, has trained well. And Johnson said he hoped to play Sunday against the Bills.

"That's the plan," Johnson said. "It's been a month and a few days, so I'm really ready."

Johnson practiced thoroughly for the first time since October 3rd. The next day, he was injured on the quad and has not played games since.

"Staying supportive of the team and my teammates is a different feeling," Johnson said. "But I can not wait to go back there."

Johnson has signed a $ 72.5 million five-year contract as a free agent for the off season. He had a beginning and an end of season. He made some good games, but also had expensive penalties and in his last game, a bad defeat of the fourth week in Jacksonville, Johnson was burned for a touchdown.

The injury worsened his first year as a Jet. But now he has seven games left to build something positive.

Bowles would not say whether Johnson will play Sunday or what his role will be. The Jets can be cautious with him with a week off coming.

"He's running better than anyone," Bowles said of Johnson. "We just have to see what his conditioning is for the next two days and see Sunday."

Injury report

Quarterback Sam Darnold (foot) was dismissed from Sunday's game by Bowles, who also ruled forward Neal Sterling (concussion). But all the other injured Jets could play. Jets' top two receivers, Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa, both missed training with their ankle injuries. But if they train on Friday, they will probably play, like last week.

Spencer Long's center (finger / knee) and defensive tackle Steve McClendon (ankle) also missed training. Goalkeeper James Carpenter was limited to an injury to the shoulder. Security Terrence Brooks (Illness) resumed training after being reported missing on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Johnson (quad) and linebackers Frankie Luvu (neck) and Kevin Pierre-Louis (foot) all resumed training after being limited on Wednesday.

What bills will the Jets face?

Los Angeles quarterback Josh Allen took part in the team exercises on Wednesday and Thursday. He will have a chance to come back from his elbow injury to play Sunday against the Jets.

In the meantime, the Jets had to prepare Allen and Nathan Peterman, which, according to Bowles, is a challenge.

"A little bit, but the scheme is the same," Bowles said. "We have to get ready for the team, not just the quarterback. Obviously, they all like certain things, so we'll just wait to see what it's all about.

Bowles said he was impressed by Allen, who has two touchdowns and five interceptions this season and has missed the last three games due to an elbow injury.

"Very sporty, strong, precise, very good race, running in the pocket, very good running with football," said Bowles. "He can throw the ball in tight spaces, good player and brilliant person."

It would be difficult to classify Peterman's play as impressive. He has seven interceptions and one touchdown in four appearances this season. But Jets defense coordinator Kacy Rodgers tried to say something nice about Peterman.

"When you look at it, the guy will go out and try to run the offense," Rodgers said. "And in some ways, he had a bit of bad luck with the sloping balls. But the guy can make games. So, we just have to be suspicious. "
