The Twins have just quietly demanded an exemption from 30 home races

Last week, Rays named first baseman C.J. Cron for a surprise assignment. On Monday, Cron found a new home while the Twins claimed it.

Cron, 28, has just had the best season of his career. He hit 0.253 / .323 / .493 (123 OPS +) with 28 doubles, 30 home runs and 74 RBIs in 140 games. The 30 races at home have definitely left the page, although he may have posted a WAR 2.0, that's what pushed the Rays to move on. Yet he was claimed out of waivers, so surely they could have gotten at least a little something for him in a trade, right?

Whatever it is, Cron is now on the Twins, where he has found the new director, Rocco Baldelli, who spent the year 2018 with the Rays as coordinator. Last season's regular freshman was Joe Mauer, now retired. So they will lose an average and base percentage while probably earning a ton of power. While the Rays may not have much appreciated Cron, the Twins chose a guy of 30 homers for nothing.

It should be mentioned here that the twins were connected to The Diamondbacks in Paul Goldschmidt rumors recently. As it stands, Cron appears to be the first baseman with Jake Cave member Willians Astudillo, a Tyler Austin band playing DH. The hunch is that adding Cron does not mean we can remove Twins from Goldy's rumors, but that probably means that they'll be far less likely to overpay.
