It's almost amazing that there has not been a full-fledged AAA open world yet Harry Potter RPG released on PC and consoles. Instead, we've got mini-games, mobile games and more modest efforts to bring the wizarding world to digital entertainment. None of these attempts was particularly satisfying.

Now, images released from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment suggest that a high-end Potter game is in the works, maybe of Batman: The Arkham Asylum Rocksteady developer, although it is more likely that Avalanche Software of Disney Infinity fame considering the latest job offers. Take all this with a good spoonful of salt, of course, but somehow, it's time to get your hands dirty. Harry Potter An RPG that was not free and was bogged down by time constraints and micro-transactions.

The video, which was leaked to YouTube by a reddit user claiming to be part of a newsgroup, was quickly pulled by Warner Bros. However, you can still look at her in a mirror here. The quality of the images is not excellent, but you can still say that it is a quality title to big budget. I can not wait to see it in all its splendor.

Here is the very long official description that was also disclosed:

"Located in the 19th century (1800's) Wizarding World, this RPG action game in the 3rd person's open world focuses on your character endowed with unique abilities that was later accepted at the same time." Hogwarts School of Witchcraft at Hogwarts that demonstrates a latent gift for magic with a unique ability to track and identify the remains of a potant [sic] old power.

Upon arrival, strange events begin to materialize in the Forbidden Forest and troubles begin to occur in the castle walls. In the company of Professor Elezar Fig, you embark on a journey to places known and never seen to shed light on the truth behind these mysterious events.

In your quest, you will make potions, master new spells and discover fantastic beasts. You will face black wizards, goblins and other supernatural enemies and discover the truth about your destiny: the fate of the wizarding world is in your hands.

FEATURES

  • Travel to Hogwarts to become one of 8 different types of assistants
  • Discover Hogwarts, make new friends, discover new secrets and change the destiny of the wizarding world.
  • Discover a new magic system that creates countless possibilities to master magic.
  • Explore the wizarding world for the first time.
  • Choose your house and friends at Hogwarts and decide to follow the path of good or evil. Create your own witch or magician and experience a whole new story, separate from books or movies.

So this looks like a game practically every Harry Potter the fan would like to play. Once again, I am a little confused that this is not already a great franchise games. Like the Marvel properties, Harry Potter remains a virtually untapped resource in the gaming industry.

I wonder how Warner Bros. manages magic traditions and rules. They rather mutilated Tolkien Middle Earth with the Shadow of Mordor / War The games (especially the last one) despite the good work with the combat and game systems (especially the first one) will they make our protagonist a killing machine, with a blood end, exercising a forbidden magic? How will the fight work in a world where killing is generally unacceptable to good wizards? How will the different Hogwarts houses play in everything?

Interestingly, you apparently start your 5th grade at school, so you're not a noob like Potter himself. This is probably a good thing, as these early years of play as a small child would be a lot less interesting. Once you have reached grade five, you have a lot of magic at your disposal, even if you are still not allowed to use it outside of Hogwarts if my memory serves me well.

According to Lizo Mzimba of the BBC, the game may be called Harry Potter: Awakened magic, although, as with any pre-publication / pre-announcement title, this is not confirmed. None of this is confirmed and until Warner Bros. reveals the game, everything stays in the open air. The images, however, are almost certainly real because it is virtually impossible to simulate something so large (and expensive).
