BALTIMORE (WJZ) – The Tony Award-winning musical "Fiddler On The Roof" has arrived in Baltimore.
This beloved theatrical classic is an uplifting story that began their national tour last month.
Tracey Leong of WJZ spoke with three of the key performers who said it was a classic that truly celebrates love, family, and tradition.
"Fiddler On The Roof" is a timeless story telling the story of a father of five daughters who clings to his Jewish traditions and struggles to find a ground of understanding with his older daughters .
"It's a story that could go into caricature and it's very real in this very pedestrian, humane and easy-to-tell production," said Natalie Powers, who plays Chava.
Powers, Mel Weyn and Ruthy Froch play the role of older girls who want to marry out of love for their father's attempt to use a matchmaker.
"The story happened over and over again to several groups of people. If you are not Jewish or of different origins, no matter who you are, we really encourage the public to understand what it means to be a refugee, says Froch.
Set in the early 1900s in Russia, it shows a father who must choose between the happiness of his daughters or the family customs he aspires to preserve.
"Think that there is a beautiful message of love and family and that you appreciate the time you spend with your family," added Powers.
"We all share the same struggles and inner torments: finding a balance between life and love, happiness and spirituality," said Weyn, who plays Tzeitel.
Filled with iconic songs, it's a classic musical that can be told to all generations.
"Fiddler On The Roof" is at the racetrack theater until Sunday.
