LYNCHBURG, Virginia –
A restaurant in Virginia faces social media reactions for ridiculing a high school student who was paying his bill with coins.
Someone at the restaurant, Beer 88, posted a photo on social networks. "Do not pay at a restaurant" and said that it was "ridiculous".
Cohen Naulty, 17, says that he used the tips that he earned as a waiter at another restaurant to look after his friends.
He paid the $ 45 tab with most coins and a $ 20 bill. He also included a $ 10 tip
"It's just American currency, I'm allowed to use it, it's not illegal, I'm not doing anything wrong" said Naulty. The restaurant added another message, saying that it was a joke and that they did not intend to publicly shame anyone:
"In response to our previous post it was published as a joke, meant to be a joke It was published as a mild way of saying that something like this can be boring for people who work in the restaurant and retail industry. no case we were publicly ashamed to pay for gratuitous and relatable page tipping, and had no idea that it would be offensive to anyone.
