On the last day to sign up for Texas, Travis County officials said expect a record number of registrations before the next mid-term elections.
Residents wishing to vote at the November 6th mid-term must register today in person or by mail to a registration form to be able to vote next month. Travis County residents can monitor one of 5,700 volunteer assistant registrars carrying boards or sitting at tables near businesses, county offices and university campuses in the city, said the door. from Travis County Tax Office, Tiffany Seward. Voters may have longer queues at lunch or after work when people go home or shop, Seward said.
"These are still busy times," she said.
Here is where you can go today to register to vote:
Travis County Tax Office: Located at 5501 Airport Blvd., the office will be open until midnight, Seward announced.
Thundercloud Subs: All the sandwich shops will hold voter registration today from 11:00 to 13:00. and 4 pm close. Most places close at 10pm.
Alamo Drafthouse: All Drafthouse sites, with the exception of the Ritz in downtown Austin, will be open to voters starting at 6:00 pm. at 9 pm
Travis County Tax Office – Pflugerville: Located at 15822 Foothill Farms Loop, this tax office will be open until 4:00 pm.
Travis County Tax Office – Southeast: Located at 4011 McKinney Falls Parkway, this tax office will be open until 4:00 pm.
Austin Community College: Registration offices will be located in all ACC campus libraries between 9:30 am and 7:30 pm. On the Highland ACC campus, at 6101 Highland Campus Dr., offices Registration will be available in the libraries and the atrium from 9:30 to 19:30.
All offices of the Texas Public Security Department will be open to voters until they are closed.
University of Texas at Austin: Volunteers will be present in the West Mall and Gregory Gym until 18:00.
County officials expect that about 93% of the 834,935 residents of Travis County who are eligible to vote will be registered this year. In 2014, 87% of eligible voters were registered and in 2016, 92.6% were registered to vote, Seward said.
Seward said more volunteers registered voters this year than in the past. In 2015-2016, about 3,000 volunteers were assigned to register voters, she said.
Seward attributes the expected turnout to the effectiveness of the 5,700 volunteer registration offices.
"I know our volunteers have really been very, very active and so I think that what really helps us to save more voters, is when we have very active volunteers who are enthusiastic about it. The idea of voting, "she said.
