The dead who walk will return with the second half of the new season Sunday, February 10 on AMC, Speak dead Host Chris Hardwick announced Sunday.
The second part of the season will be devoted to the Survivors' War with the Territorial Whisperers, a cult of barbaric nomads who wear the skin of marchers in extreme camouflage.
This new enemy group was revealed in the last moments of the mid-season finale after Jesus (Tom Payne) was hit by a Whisperer pretending to be a walker. Daryl (Norman Reedus) then removed the "walker" sewn on the face, to discover a fresh human corpse underneath.
"We have established this little mystery of, do walkers evolve? And I felt we really needed an answer before the end of the mid-season, "said showwoman Angela Kang. EW.
"I did not want to let this mystery pass like cliffhanger in the next half of the season. We should at least get an answer because there are a lot of twists and turns on the Whisperers scenario in general.
"So we wanted to at least lay the table and make our characters understand that there is a human factor involved, but a very strange human factor that does not resemble any of those we have encountered so far. The masks are really scary and weird, and coming out of the shocking death of Jesus at the moment, it's something that our characters are just trying to deal with so much at the end of the season. It has happened so much in the space of a few seconds for them. "
The story will solve this sweet cliffhanger – Daryl, Michonne (Danai Gurira), Aaron (Ross Marquand), Magna (Nadia Hilkes) and Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura) surrounded by Whisperers in a hazy graveyard – and the first mid-season on will "pick things up pretty quickly to the point where we stopped, and our people are there and they will obviously have to fight," said Kang.
"But they will make yet another strange and shocking discovery along the way in the episode, and the story is unfolding from there."
Kang also revealed that the mid-season premiere of February would follow Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who enjoyed his first taste of freedom for almost eight years after the paralyzed father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) inadvertently left his cell.
"We'll see exactly what's going on with Negan, now that he's out of his cell. He has served his sentence, and he is coming out of the world, "Kang teased.
"So, I think Jeffrey embodies some really cool stuff in the next episode, as well as in this main story about Whisperers and the story that's unfolding."
