Other Twitter users followed the mocking chorus, many of them claiming that he deserved an Oscar for his performance and suspecting that the drama of the scene was at least partly fabricated.
The Weather Channel, in a statement to the American political newspaper The hill, expressed his support for Mr. Seidel, saying that he was standing on wet grass and that he was "no doubt exhausted".
"It's important to note that the two individuals in the background are walking on concrete, and Mike Seidel is trying to keep his foot on the wet grass, having done his reporting until 1am.
On Saturday afternoon, the video on Twitter had been viewed more than 9.3 million times and received more than 115,000 retweets.
It comes as serious warnings for residents of North Carolina and South Carolina, Cyclone Florence, which was downgraded Friday into a tropical storm, continue to jeopardize properties and lives.
Residents were warned that they could be destroyed by floods and landslides in the coming hours, while the death toll would reach five on Saturday.
Conditions should improve slowly, but we do not know when.
