The weekend of the Virginia sales tax holiday begins this Friday

RICHMOND, Va. – Three-day sales tax for back-to-school and hurricanes is nearing completion here in Virginia

This year, Virginia sales tax holiday begins on the first Friday of the year. August and ends the following Sunday. 23:59, from August 3rd to August 5th.

During the weekend without taxes, buyers can buy back-to-school items and take the necessary precautions during the hurricane season without paying the national and local sales tax.

All retailers selling exempt products are required to participate in the sales tax holiday.

Tax Exempt Items Include:

School Supplies, Clothing and Footwear [19659008] Qualified School Supplies – $ 20 or Less per Item

  • Eligible Clothing and Footwear – $ 100 or Less per item
  • Hurricanes and Emergency Preparedness Products

    • Portable Generators – $ 1,000 or Less per Item
    • – $ 350 or Less per Item
    • Chainsaw Accessories – $ 60 or less per item
    • Other specified items on hurricane preparedness – $ 60 or less per item

    Energy Star ™ and WaterSense ™ Products

    Online purchases of eligible products are exempt from sales tax while orders are placed and payed
