The annual event and its parent organization have undergone a number of changes as a result of the #MeToo movement. Miss America was the first to suspend a "swimsuit contest" since the first event, in 1921. Miss America was also renamed competition rather than a fashion show – and yes, she calls it Miss America 2.0.
These changes followed the internal reorganization of last year. In December, Sam Haskell, former executive director of Miss America, resigned after vicious and misogynous emails were made public.

Now that Mrs. Mund, the first Miss America of North Dakota, has handed over the crown, she will go to law school. She hopes to become the first female governor of her country of origin.
