The woman has a mass of 61 pounds removed from the uterus

The patient, located in Singapore, may have avoided going to the doctor because the fibroid was developing for fear of surgery.

A Singapore patient is said to be in good health after the doctors removed a 61-pound uterine fibroid that affected her ability to breathe.

The 53-year-old woman, who was not named in the BMJ case report, underwent a complete hysterectomy on an undisclosed date to remove the 26-inch fibroid.

According to Live Science, Dr. Ph Ting Lim, a resident of OB-GYN Hospital at the KK Women's and Children's Hospital in Singapore, said the fibroid occupied the entire abdominal and pelvic cavity and had spread to the bottom sternum.

They had to perform plastic surgery after removing the mass to reconstruct the abdominal wall, which had been thinned.

Lim told Live Science that it was not clear how long the fibroid had grown in the woman's body, but that the fear of surgery had prevented her from being examined.

He said he avoided the typical symptoms of bowel problems and abdominal discomfort due to the slow growth of the fibroid, which allowed his body to adapt to its size. The patient however struggled with movement and shortness of breath and was largely bedridden before having removed him.

According to Live Science, fibroids are generally common in women of childbearing age. About 70% of women develop at the age of 50.

However, Lim said that due to the low growth of fibroids, patients usually removed them before they even reached the size of their patients.

According to Live Science, the largest fibroid ever collected from a living patient weighed 100 pounds.
