PARIS – The French street, dormant during much of the presidency of Emmanuel Macron, is getting out of his sleep.

Over the past two weeks, protesters in yellow reflective vests – or yellow vests, as they are now known in France – stormed French roads and captivated traffic to express frustration over the increases fuel taxes. Two people died and hundreds were injured in clashes between protesters and motorists and police, some of which even broke out on the Champs-Elysees.
