WEST ORANGE, NJ – Local officials, including West Orange Mayor Robert Parisi, City Council Chair Susan McCartney, and Congressman Leonard Lance will speak to participants in the Walk to End Alzheimer's event in Ottawa. West Orange's South Mountain Recreation. ceremony ribbon to start the annual walk.
The Alzheimer's Association invites all residents of Essex, Hudson and Union County to join the fight to end Alzheimer's by participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's Disease Saturday at Clipper Lodge, 9 Cherry Lane.
Participants will complete a two-kilometer walk to familiarize themselves with Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, registration of clinical studies, and programs and support services offered by the Alzheimer Society. Walkers will also pay tribute to those affected by Alzheimer's disease during the poignant ceremony of the Garden of Promise.

"As a volunteer and president this year, I join with participants of all ages to fight the disease at Walk to End Alzheimer's," said Rita Whetton. "Alzheimer's disease is a growing epidemic. The disease is relentless. but here in New Jersey, too.
More than 5 million Americans currently live with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and the only one of the top 10 causes that can not be cured, prevented or even slowed down. In addition, more than 16 million family members and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias in the United States.
There is still time to register a team for the upcoming Essex County event. Sign up as a team captain or sign up to walk as an individual. For those who can not attend on the day of the event, there are ways to participate and volunteer without even walking.
