This ingenious way of cooking rice reduces calories by 60%

A cup of cooked white rice contains on average 200 calories, which often treats it as a "sometimes" food.
However, scientists at the College of Chemical Sciences of Sri Lanka are making the staple food full of healthier carbohydrates for everyone by sharing a simple trick to reduce calories.
And all you have to do is add some coconut oil to the cooking process and let it cool overnight, Better Homes and Gardens said.
Adding these two steps to your rice cooking repertoire minimizes the calories in your last dish by 60%.
And because obesity is a growing problem around the world, it could be the diet-based solution that we desperately need to know.
The reason why adding a substance such as coconut oil reduces the total number of calories is relatively simple: the fat molecules penetrate the rice during cooking and also serve as a digestive barrier.
Add to that the cooling time for 12 hours – which makes the links in the rice stronger and makes digestive enzymes difficult to break – and you have practically a cheat meal in your hands.
The study leader, Sudhair A. James, said that "the increasing concentration of rice-resistant starch (RS) is a new way to tackle the problem of obesity".
But doctors have warned that heated rice could cause food poisoning.
In order to fight against bacteria, it is recommended not to leave them in the refrigerator more than one day and to make sure it is hot after microwaving.
Also, never heat the rice more than once.
Researchers are currently trying to determine if other types of oil are acting in the same way.
