"The first year we attended Black Friday, there were about 300 people and we were pretty satisfied," said Greg Hall, the former brewmaster of Goose Island, creator of the beer.

"At the time, no one had come forward for a beer outing," Todd Ahsmann, president of Goose Island Beer Co.

The event has grown so much that last year, more than 2,000 people lined up in this Chicago-based store, but there were also in suburban stores in New York and San Francisco.

"There were lines all over the country," says Ahsmann. "It's now become a cultural phenomenon, where being online is just as important as what you ultimately get. People exchange stories, open beers and exchange beers. It became his own thing, the part of the line. "

"Last year, Swedes boarded the plane just at weekends to get some beer," Hall said. "It's really exciting."

Jerome Dennison, who lives in Michigan, has been queuing for five of the last six years. He is usually the first to line up at Binny's Beverage Depot in Lincoln Park. "My wife started joining the band after a few solo releases at Black Friday, and recently I brought my daughter, who also invited her boyfriend to line up with us."

Dennison, who once brought brownies from last year's release, says he still loves the donuts and the Intelligentsia coffee that Goose Island employees serve. "Black Friday is about community, meeting old friends you've met before and creating new friendships," he says.

Ahsmann, Hall and other Goose Islanders usually visit people in the queue to discover their history and visit them. That's how they discovered the Swedish band – talking with people. "We love going up and down in line, talking to people," says Ahsmann.

In addition to serving donuts and the same coffee as the one used to make the fat, they usually hand out special gift bags to the 100 or so queues, and this year they will be distributing a great book on the history from fat to some of the lucky line lovers.

This year's release is expected to be particularly popular as it is the first time that eight different variants have been brewed. Although Bourbon County has a nationwide distribution, two versions have a very limited version. The Bourbon County Reserve will only be restricted to Chicago, New York, Kentucky and the Philadelphia Brewhouse in Goose Island. And the variant of Proprietor is only available in Chicago, because it was brewed to especially thank the fans of the brewery. If you want the eight variants, you have to go to Chicago.

Variations include the original Bourbon County Stout, aged Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels aged 4 and up and the Bourbon County Stout are identical to those in the original recipe, but are aged in 12 year old Elijah Craig Barrel Proof bourbon casks. The Wheatwine of Bourbon County is made from two-row malted wheat, making it the first recipe modified since the barleywine was introduced in 2013.
