Nearly 30,000 customers remained without electricity Sunday as the Department of Water and Energy Los Angeles continued its efforts to repair the power grid.
Repairs for 29,350 customers still without power should take 24-48 According to the LADWP, the hardest-hit community remains Koreatown, where 4,859 customers were left without electricity at 10 am.
The power supply system has been stretched since a heat wave hit southern California, resulting in dangerous three-digit temperatures.
The use of energy for cooling purposes caused the grid to climb 5,700 megawatts Saturday, making it the 2nd largest weekend day in history of Los Angeles, according to the LADWP. This follows the peak of electricity consumption reaching 6,256 megawatts on Friday and set a new record for a July day.
Up to now, the LADWP says it has restored food to 51,000 customers since Friday, with 16-hour shifts.
