Three children died at the Indiana bus stop

ROCHESTER, Indiana –

Three children were beaten and killed and another seriously injured at a school bus stop in Indiana on Tuesday morning, Indiana State Police said.

The children were hit by a van while they were boarding a bus near 4600 North State Road 25 in Rochester, Fulton County, police said. Rochester is located about 45 miles south of South Bend.

Sgt. Tony Slocum said three of the children died on the scene and the fourth was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital.

Their names and ages have not been published. Slocum did not say which school the kids attend.

The Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation has issued the following statement:

"Our school society was tragically affected this morning, we learned that three students died and that one student was seriously injured and flown to a Fort Wayne hospital while being hit by a vehicle. as he boarded his bus, we have deployed all the school counselors the emotional needs of our staff, our students and our parents.We are waiting to deepen our knowledge but wish to ask the community to come together to pray for families, our students and our staff. "

Police question the woman driving the van.

Slocum calls the accident a "terrible tragedy".

The police did not immediately release the details of the incident.
