Gaza City (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) – Three Palestinians were killed Sunday during an Israeli air strike on the Gaza Strip, the Ministry of Health said in the enclave.
Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said the emergency teams were transporting the bodies of the dead, who appeared to be in the early teens, to the Gaza hospital.
The Israeli army said one of its planes had fired at a group of Palestinians near the Gaza border.
"Not long ago, three Palestinians approached the security fence in the southern Gaza Strip, tried to damage it, and apparently participated in setting up a machine. improvised explosive nearby, "said a statement.
"In response, an IDF aircraft (Israel Defense Forces) fired on them."
Tensions are strong along the border between Gaza and Israel since the Palestinians began a wave of border protests in March.
At least 217 Palestinians were killed by Israeli gunfire during months of demonstrations and clashes along the border.
An Israeli soldier was killed during the violence during the same period.
Israeli and Palestinian militants in Gaza, led by the Islamist Hamas movement, have waged three wars since 2008.
Several military outbreaks occurred in the months following the start of the demonstrations, raising fears of a new war between the two sides.
The latest came from Friday to Saturday, when Palestinian militants fired dozens of rockets into southern Israel, which fought back with numerous airstrikes.
The violence ended after Islamic Jihad, the Palestinian militant group that launched the rockets, announced that it had accepted a truce negotiated by Egypt.
Israel says it holds Hamas responsible for all violence from the Gaza Strip and accused the group of using the protests as cover to attack its border.
