NEW YORK – Three people were arrested in New York following violent clashes after a speech by the founder of a far-right group. Police said on Saturday that she was watching a video of the clashes and could make further arrests.

The violence that took place on Friday night followed a speech by Gavin McInnes, founder of the Proud Boys, at the Metropolitan Republican Club. Proud Boys, exclusively male, describe themselves as "Western chauvinists".

The videos posted on YouTube show clashes between the Proud Boys and groups protesting McInnes' speech.

No serious injuries have been reported.

The three people arrested are charged with assault and are awaiting trial on Saturday in the Manhattan Criminal Court. Police spokesman J. Peter Donald said the department was reviewing the video and would make further arrests if necessary.

Several elected representatives expressed outrage at the violence and blamed the Proud Boys, who were designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

"The authorities must immediately watch these videos, make arrests and prosecute," said Governor Andrew Cuomo, Democrat. "Hate can not and will not be tolerated in New York."
