Three people arrested in connection with the murder of the mayor of North Carolina, his wife

LEGGETT, N.C. – Authorities say three suspects are now facing charges related to death of the mayor of a small town in North Carolina and his wifee. Leggett Mayor Caroline Skelton and his wife Jackie were found dead on Thursday, CBS affiliate Raleigh reported.

The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office said in a press release on Saturday afternoon that investigators had arrested Dakeithia Nesha Andrews, of Rocky Mount, on a charge of stealing a conspiracy with a dangerous weapon.

Two Tarboro men, 18-year-old Mitchell Brinson and 25-year-old Keith Earl Williams have already been charged with first degree murder.

The press release does not offer any new details about the case. We did not know if she had a lawyer to comment on.

"We were able to resolve this double homicide in less than eight hours," said Sheriff Clee Atkinson.

Authorities did not discuss any motive. Brinson lived in the same apartment complex as Williams, said MPs at WNCN.

Investigators said they were waiting for forensic evidence to be processed.

Williams was released from prison on August 28, according to court records.

In April 2017, he was convicted of two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and the possession of a pistol by a criminal following a shootout at Rocky Mount on Feb. 16. 2016.

The city of Leggett has 55 inhabitants, according to the Charlotte Observer.
