The Apple Cup quickly passed from those who would play the worst parts to those who would make the least mistakes – and there was plenty to do.

Sliding conditions and limited visibility when the snow fell at Martin's Palouse Stadium made the simplest journeys and the critical bullet safety on Friday difficult. It was a battle that should have favored the organization of Team # 8 in Washington State, accustomed to freezing temperatures. UW is the champion of Pac-12 North

It was the third consecutive season that this rivalry within the state had helped to decide the division championship. For the third season, these honors have been awarded to UW. This is not the only series the Huskies have kept with their ninth win of the season, but the Cougars desperately wanted to finish.

You see, two years ago, when UW last made it to Pullman, in the state of Washington, he won the first conference championship of the school in 16 years . The victory also allowed the Huskies to play their first participation at the PSC, the last time a Pac-12 school participated in the screening.

This time, the WSU was playing its first conference title in 16 years and a potential spot on the CFP, with the Cougars having entered the 13th week as one of only six teams that had suffered a defeat and one of four teams that deserve a place among two of the most coveted bowl games. Well, we now know that this does not happen.

UW beat the WSU in six consecutive games and in nine of the last 10 Apple Cups, with quarterback Jake Browning becoming the first player to be undefeated against the Cougars.

The Huskies will then face Utah Utes, number 17, who has just won the first Pac-12 South title of the school, at the conference championship on Friday.

Remember those shifts we mentioned earlier? They were six, three of each team.

They happened early, and what seemed too often. The first was this Browning hitch, his first ride in the red zone – all the time.

The next came from UW's defense, who pushed quarterback Gardner Minshew into the end zone – he finished the game with 26 passes out of 35 with 152 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.

Add another here and there and you get two busy tusks.

But that was not always the case when these two teams met. Even though UW has won this year, the Huskies have also won the battle of the numbers. Cougars are known to have struggled to handle the ball against this fierce defense. During their last four meetings, WSU had 18 turnovers. On the other hand, UW only had three.

So, of course, the Huskies did not have the cleanest outing, but they will keep this trophy for at least another year.

Jake Browning cemented his legacy

From now on, no offense can work with a single player. But, one player has been a constant in these Apple Cup clashes.

Browning's 4-0 record was completed with a completion rate of 78% (11 of 14) for 207 yards, no touchdown and solitary interception. He was almost perfect in the first period, his only problem being the red zone selection, then he came back to help design two second-quarter touchdowns in these extreme conditions.

This victory not only made him the first UW player under center to start and win four Apple Cups. Browning led the Huskies to victory as outsiders for the first time in three years and earned his third victory against a Power-5 team that will finish the season with 10 or more wins.

The impact he's had on this team is undeniable, but would not be possible without the help of his friends. Running was essential in this victory and Myles Gaskin of UW had a great performance. He finished with 170 yards and three touchdowns on 27 runs, including that 80-yard rush to reach the Huskies total.
