MADISON, WIS. – A warning day was declared Thursday as scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening could be violent, mainly in northwestern Dane County.

The scattered showers and thunderstorms will end Thursday morning as a warm front rises northward across the state.

Most of the day will be dry with partly sunny skies on Thursday afternoon. Strong southerly winds will allow temperatures to rise to the mid-1980s and moisture levels will also increase.

A cold front will cause a second wave of rain in the area Thursday night. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop later Thursday afternoon northwest of Madison. Some storms can be severe with heavy hail, destructive winds, and isolated tornadoes.

Storms will cross southern Wisconsin during the night, but the threat of severe weather diminishes after midnight.

Friday will be cool and much cooler. All showers will decrease in the morning, but the clouds will remain during the day. The high temperatures will be about 20 degrees colder in the mid-60s. The sun will come back for the weekend and it will feel like September with peaks in the 60's at around 70 degrees.
