And now, the Jacks find themselves under a cloud of strangers who wonder if they have any something to do with the disappearance of Tibbetts. Blake Jack said that any examination of him or his brother was unjustified, stating that the investigators confirmed their whereabouts the night Tibbetts was missing. He said that such speculation was hurtful, but "people in this community know the truth."

"We know something must have happened to him," he said.

On the morning of her disappearance, the Tibbetts family reported that she was missing after she did not go to a child care center in a nearby town.

He said dozens of investigators from his agency, the FBI and Blake Jack told The Associated Press Tuesday that on July 18, he was visiting his fiancée, Aimee Houghton, in Ames. , where she works this summer. He says his brother was working for their family-building business about 100 miles to Dubuque

He said Tibbetts was taking care of his dogs while they were out of town

"But what about "Was she doing that night?" I have no idea, "he said, standing in the driveway of the house.

Blake Jack has repeatedly urged anyone to see something unusual – "big or small" – to report it to the authorities. He said his canceled wedding plans were nothing compared to what the entire community was going through.

Neighbor Dave Collum, a retired director of maintenance for the school district, said he was interviewed by investigators who told him that Tibbetts Fitbit's data showed that she ran after her house that night and came home safely. He said the investigators had told him that she was doing her homework on her computer later that evening.

Winker refused to confirm this statement at the press conference. He said the investigators had a schedule but would not confirm or deny case facts so as not to compromise the case.

Collum said that he often saw Tibbetts running in the neighborhood but not the night she disappeared. He has known his family for years and often sat close to them during Mass at the local Catholic Church. He said that he was not the type of person who would run away, and that he was afraid of being a victim of a stalker or a random kidnapping .

Collum joined hundreds of other volunteers to search for cornfields and Tibbetts buildings. He put a magnet with his face on his red van, so he could have a reminder of her whenever he enters it.

"Everyone in the city is always trying," he said. "It's sad."
