Tiger Advertisers Involved in a "Physical Altercation"

Baseball presenters are paid to say interesting words about the game and have a good chemistry on the air. They are not paid to be friends with each other, however. Some are natural friends, but others do not.

Mario Impemba and Rod Allen, presenters of Detroit Tigers, are certainly in the train "not friends". Katie Strang, of The Athletic, reported on Thursday that Ampemba and Allen had entered an "altercation" which resulted in their absence from Wednesday's broadcast.

Several sources said The sport that neither Impemba nor Allen participated in the broadcast of Wednesday following a physical altercation between the two television personalities after the match Tuesday in Chicago against the White Sox. It is not immediately known what caused the attack.

According to ClickOnDetroit, the altercation took place after the show on Tuesday night. Impemba would have left the stand, to be followed by Allen and assaulted and suffocated from behind. The pair was dismantled by a third party.

What could cause such a violent attack? According to the ClickOnDetroit report, it was a disagreement on a chair in the booth.

Since 2002, Impemba is the announcer of Tigers TV show. Allen, who spent five years in the majors, is one of the Tigers' color analysts for 15 seasons. Out of the air (and sometimes above), both are not known to be close, or even very friendly. Strang said that there has been for some time a "simmering tension" between the two, resulting from their opposing personalities and broadcasting styles.

Allen and Impemba returned to Detroit after the reported altercation, but their travel arrangements were made so that the two did not travel together. Matt Shepard and former MLB player Kirk Gibson replaced them.

Strang contacted Fox Sports Detroit about the incident, and General Manager Greg Hammaren did not say much, but he did not deny that the altercation had occurred.

"My only comment is that we are tackling an internal issue and we will have no other comments for the moment."

The Detroit Free Press reported that Impemba and Allen will meet Fox Sports Detroit leaders on Thursday to determine what should happen in the light of the incident.
