Tina, a musical based on the life and music of Tina Turner, will debut on Broadway in the fall of 2019. She currently performs at Aldwych Theater in London's West End.
Tina made its world premiere in London in April 2018 and will continue to run there for the moment. The casting, the performance dates and the Manhattan theater where it will be based will be announced at a later date.
"Giving life to this musical on stage and working with this team has been important to me," said Turner, who co-produced the musical, in a statement. "I think this is in many ways the culmination of my career. The London public has been and continues to be extraordinary. Now the Broadway lights are calling and I'm very happy to be able to share this wonderful show with the New York public next year. "
The musical follows the story of Turner's life, from her early years in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her stint as the queen of rock 'n' roll. The book was written by Katori Hall, who won an Olivier Award in 2010 for his play. The mountain and created on Broadway in 2011.
Turner has been semi-retired from music over the last decade. She has not released a complete album since 1999, and her last live tour was her 2008-2009 50th Anniversary Tour. She will publish a second memoir, Tina Turner: My love story, Later this year.
