LONDON – Tina Turner revealed that she had undergone a kidney transplant with an organ donated by her husband.

The 78-year-old singer says in an upcoming autobiography that she suffered from kidney disease and that in 2016, her kidneys were at "20% and that they were diving rapidly" .

She says that her husband, Erwin Bach, "shocked me by saying that he wanted to give me one of his kidneys". Turner says she was "overwhelmed by the enormity of her offer".

Turner, whose titles include "Proud Mary" and "What does love have to do with her?", Married German music director Bach in 2013 after a long relationship.

Excerpts from "Tina Turner: My Love Story" were published Saturday by publisher Penguin.

In the book, Turner encourages people to register to donate organs.
