Hawk and Dove make great success Titans episode 2, entitled (rightly, "Hawk and Dove"). Their arrival marks an immediate change for the series, which attaches less to the problems of Dick Grayson post-Batman than Robin, and a little more to creating a fully lived environment. world of DC superheroes. Created by the legendary Steve Ditko (of Spider-Man and Dr. Strange), they were originally Hank and Don Hall, a couple of superhero brothers, before being reorganized by Karl and Barbara Kesel under the name of Hank Hall and Dawn Granger.
Played by Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly on Titans, TV DC Universe Hawk and Dove are two veterans of the fight against crime who may be looking for a way out of the difficult lifestyle created by the superhero. Hawk, tired of the whole world and angry, of Ritchson is a perfect counterpoint to Dove, the serene and understanding face of Kelly. Both characters are so convincing on screen that the impression is that the characters could wear a series if necessary.

And although the most important part of this is the chemistry and charisma of Ritchson and Kelly, there is also a cool factor at play, since they sport what could be the best super hero costumes to the screen right now. But what's great for the viewers is not always great for the actors. And Ritchson in particular suffered during the design of the costume.
"They really put their heart and soul into it, but I had to be the model," Ritchson told reporters at the NYCC. "It took hours and hours to push and pull, and bolts dig in. They really built it from the ground up."
And although Ritchson looks really super heroic on the screen in the red and white suit, it makes the real superhero difficult. Namely, the "wings" style cape of the suit must be held by metal rods so that they always move as they are supposed to.
"It's super uncomfortable," he says. "He does not like to move. Because this cape is so heavy, it weighs about 30 kilos or something like that … it's just heavy. I was bolted and screwed together and I removed it at the end of the day, and my chest was bleeding. "
Of course, despite its disadvantages, but he knows how cool it looks. "And now, I can not pee all day," Ritchson jokes. "It's a relationship of love-hate. I think they did a great job in honoring the comics, and it's really hard to translate what you can draw on a page of our size, and they did a fantastic job.

Minka Kelly's Dove Costume presents its own challenges, with a similar 30-pound wing rig. "We have teams of over-actions that support the weight of the wings for us," Kelly said. "I wear a huge harness under my suit that can spread the weight of the wings so I can fight with them and use them as a shield. It's fun, though. As soon as you put it, you're like, 'Wow! I am ready to fight!
And fight they do. And true to the spirit of the characters, Hawk and Dove fight in very different ways. "They gave each of us his own way of fighting," says Kelly. "[Dove] was a ballerina, she was in jiu-jitsu and she was a gymnast. His fights are more like a dance and Hawk is a brute. Robin has his cape and his [kali sticks] and everyone has their own way of doing what's really cool. But it's frustrating during rehearsals because [Alan] gets his choreography in ten minutes because he is throwing a lot of punches, and that I dive, that I dive and that I dance. Our stunt coordinators are amazing and I have such an amazing double. "

Ritchson already has experience in heavy acting roles, having worked on Hunger Games: The Embrasement and like Raphael in the recent Teenage Ninja Turtles movies. "I've always played against someone who has to fight," he says. "So, it's just a slightly different version of this kind of martial arts."
And while the hawk and the dove we meet in Titans episode 2 have been fighting together for at least four years, we will eventually learn their original story. The episode 10 of Titans will focus on their debut. "It's before they're Hawk and Dove, and you can see them when they meet," Kelly says. "Akiva Goldsman and Geoff Johns wrote this episode and Akiva realized it. Everyone is a little film, so it's been so much fun and I'm so attracted to the world that Akiva and Geoff were able to create the middle ground to make it the biggest, the real, the most crude version From a superhero show you've never seen while keeping her superhero look. "
Since we are getting an original episode for the pair, maybe DC Universe will try a spin-off on the line. But if nothing else, it should mean that we will see more of Hawk and Dove in the future, as Titans has already been renewed for a second season.
Titans broadcasts new episodes every Friday on DC Universe.
