Before the Patriots-Titans match on Sunday, Marcus Mariota praised Tom Brady's ability to stay so good for so long in the NFL.

Welcome to the club, Nick Mullens.
Consider yourself, club member # 417.
When the San Francisco 49er faced the Oakland Raiders on November 1, he joined an elite club: the number of NFL shifts that have started at least one game since the start of the 2001 season .
The importance of 2001? It's the season that Tom Brady started in the NFL for the first time. He replaced Drew Beldsoe as the Patriots star on Sept. 30, his third game of New England this season.
When Brady faces the Tennessee Titans on Sunday (noon, WTVF-5), it will be the 261st regular season start of his career, by far the best of any NFL quarterback in the last 18 seasons.
"When you play midlife, I think it says a lot about how he cares for his body, how he did it … The life in the NFL is so short and that He must go beyond that and more says a lot about what he's done, "said Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, who will make his 49th start for the Titans on Sunday.
He is one of 15 different starting quarters the Titans have used since the start of the 2001 season. Steve McNair's 67 starts are the most numerous of the last 18 seasons for Tennessee.
A study conducted by USA TODAY Network in Tennessee on NFL starting shifts since the start of the 2001 season revealed interesting facts and bizarre statistics. Among them:
►In the 4,478 games played, there were 417 quarterbacks. Each team used an average of 13 over the 18 seasons.
►Tom Brady became the Patriots quarterback on September 30, 2001, 29 days after the September 11 terrorist attacks. Brady replaced Drew Bledsoe, who was injured in the Patriots game on September 23 against the New York Jets. Mariota was 7 when Brady made her first NFL start.
►The Cleveland Browns have started 27 different quarters (Tim Couch's 37 starts are at the top of the Browns list). The number of Browns 27 is the same as the three other AFC North franchises combined (Ravens 12, Steelers 8, Bengals 7).

►The Chargers started the smallest number, only three: Philip Rivers, 200; Drew Brees, 58, Doug Flutie, 22, Rivers has started all Chargers games since the start of the 2006 season.
►Rivers is a member of the very limited club of 200 players: Tom Brady, 260 years old; Eli Manning, 222; Ben Roethlisberger, 206; Rivers, 200.
► Mullens is the 48th quarterback to launch only one game for a franchise over the last 18 seasons. He should make his debut in second place against the New York Giants on Monday.
► Ryan Fitzpatrick started for seven different franchises, for a total of 124 starts. The current starter of the Tampa Bay Bucs (eight starts this weekend) has also started for the Buffalo Bills (53 times), the New York Jets (27), the Houston Texans (12), the Cincinnati Bengals ( 12), the Titans of Tennessee (9) and St. Louis Rams (3).
►Matt Cassel started for six different franchises, but his praise deserves an asterisk. He started a game with the Buffalo Bills in 2015, while the usual quarterback, Tyrod Taylor, showed up as wide receiver in the first game. Cassel has never started another match for the Bills. He started for the Kansas City Chiefs (47), New England Patriots (15), Minnesota Vikings (9), Dallas Cowboys (7) and Tennessee Titans (2).
►Josh McCown, Brian Hoyer and Gus Frerotte have started for five different teams since the start of the 2001 season.
►The Titans used 15 different entries: Steve McNair 67, Marcus Mariota 48, Vince Young 47, Kerry Collins 32, Jake Locker 23, Matt Hasselbeck 21, Zach Mettenberger 10, Billy Volek 10, Ryan Fitzpatrick 9, Charlie Whitehurst 5, Matt Cassel 2, Blaine Gabbert 2, Neil O Donnell 2, Matt Mauck 1, Rusty Smith 1.
