While the eighth week of the university football season did not have the same number of setbacks as last week, the 49-20 defeat against Ohio State against Purdue stirred the top 10. The Buckeyes lost nine places , ranking 11th, behind teams like UCF, Florida and Oklahoma.

And, coincidentally, the loss of the state of Ohio was a gain for Michigan. The Wolverines moved up from 6th to 5th last week after ending their 17-game losing streak against ranked teams by beating Michigan State 21-7.

Washington State was the biggest climber of the poll this week. The Cougars won 11 places at No. 14 after beating Oregon 34-20. The Ducks lost seven places to 19th with this loss.
