Top 25 coaches poll: Clemson takes second place in Michigan, top 5 college football

One of the great successes of Week 8 University Football has been to note nationwide that we are on the right track for a fourth straight meeting between Alabama and Clemson during Playoff College Playoff.

It's not so much that Clemson is now in second place in the coaching poll after Ohio State fell to ninth place after losing to Purdue. The Tigers were not content to defeat NC State in the last two undefeated teams of the ACC, they also bent their league power status. Clemson's defensive line has provided the kind of dominant performance we expect from a group that has four top NFL players in the starting lineup. Trevor Lawrence made further progress after a week off to continue his development as a starting quarterback.

Alabama, of course, held their position at the top of the poll after breaking the Tennessee rival's record. The Tigers are followed by Notre Dame, LSU and Michigan in the top five.

Washington State made one of the biggest advances in the coaching survey, ranking 15th. Newcomers to the top 25 following some upheaval at the bottom of the rankings were Utah and Miami.
