TBILISI (Georgia) – The electoral authorities of the former Soviet Republic of Georgia said that the first two candidates in Sunday's presidential election won less than 50 percent of the vote, paving the way for a second round.

The Central Election Commission announced on Monday that the preliminary results show that two former foreign ministers, Salome Zourabishvili and Grigol Vashadze, won 39% and 38% of the vote, respectively, out of a group of 25 candidates. A flow between the two should take place on December 2nd.

This is the last presidential election in Georgia. Constitutional changes occur at the end of the term of office of the next president, which will leave a system of delegates to choose the president. The changes will make the prime minister the most powerful political figure in the country.
