A tornado watch was issued for six North Jersey counties Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The watch was issued by the service at 4:55 p.m. and will be in effect for Bergen, Essex, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and Warren counties until midnight.

A tornado means that conditions are favorable for a tornado to occur.

A “couple tornadoes” were possible and ping pong ball-sized hail was also predicted, the National Weather Service stated.

Isolated wind gusts up to 70 miles MPH were also possible.
