The tornadoes swept Tuesday Stony Point and New Castle as storms left a trail of flooded roads and helpless homes in the Lower Hudson Valley.

Hundreds of people lost electricity and many roads were closed due to floods caused by storms.

An F1 tornado hit New Castle between 4:47 pm and 4:56 pm, according to the National Weather Service. According to the meteorological service, a tornado is considered an F1 if the winds blow between 86 and 110 mph.

According to the weather service, winds reached 110 mph at New Castle, where many trees were uprooted and shingles damaged on the roofs. The path was 300 meters wide.

"Trees, poles and cables were down everywhere," said New Castle Police Lieutenant James Carroll, head of the clean-up operations.

Roads 100 and 133, Bedford Road, Shingle House Road and Old Roaring Brook Road were the hardest hit, Carroll said. All roads were reopened from 13:45.

The teams at Con Edison and DPW worked all day cleaning the debris and turning on the power. Carroll said the remediation efforts were going well.

Stony Point Tornado

An F1 tornado also hit Stony Point, where winds reached 100 mph. It landed between 16:10 and 16:15 depending on the weather forecast.

The tornado began in Harriman National Park, west of Interstate Parkway and Palisades' Gate Gate Road, and ravaged Stony Point for about one kilometer and ended near Wilderness Drive, according to the report. weather service. The tornado's path was 100 meters wide. He uprooted many trees.

There was damage near Exit 15 of the Palisades Interstate Parkway, around Pierce Road and Zachary Taylor Street, as well as rammed cables that shut off Wilderness Drive, he said.

"Fortunately, no one was hurt," he said. "No major damage at home."

A third low-intensity tornado in the New York area hit Ronkonkoma (Long Island) from 11:20 to 23:22, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Meteorological Service, it reached a top speed of 85 mph and was 400 meters long and 200 meters wide.

Parts of the lower Hudson Valley were flooded by more than 4 inches of rain. The five-hour rain bombardment on Tuesday night in some locations "would equate to a 16-inch snow storm," said Elliot Abrams, Meteorologist at AccuWeather.
