The bankruptcy of Toys "R" in the United States left toy manufacturers and retailers in trouble to get the right stock inventory before the holiday season.
"This year more than ever, find the right game in the right stores, at the right time and in the right quantities at the right time," said Steve Totzke, Mattel's Commercial Director (NASDAQ: MAT).
Walmart (NYSE: WMT) and Target (NYSE: TGT) reserve more floor space for toys this holiday season, while Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) plans to distribute toy catalogs in the US. Whole Foods stores to reach consumers. Channels such as Kohl (NYSE: KSS), J.C. Penney (NYSE: JCP), Toy City and Party City (NYSE: PRTY) are also looking to strategically fill the toy gap.
The risk for large chains of retailers to discard their toy sales is excessive and forced to sell at lower prices after the holidays.
While the attention given to toys by retailers is positive for Mattel and Hasbro (NASDAQ: HAS), the uncertainty as to whether toys will be dragged into the tariff battle with China still weighs on toy manufacturers.
