Toyota recalls about 2.4 million hybrid cars in the world that could stall while driving.

The Japanese automaker said Friday that the recall involved about 807,000 Toyota Prius cars in the United States. It concerns some 2010-2014 Prius hybrids and some 2012-2014 Prius V hybrids.

The defect occurs in "rare situations," Toyota said. This implies that the vehicle fails to "enter a fail-safe driving mode in response to some hybrid system failures".

The builder did not say whether he linked the problem to accidents, injuries or deaths.

This is not the first time that Toyota has problems with the integrated safety procedure with some of these cars. The company issued recalls in 2014 and 2015 to solve similar problems, but "did not anticipate this new situation" at the time, Toyota said Friday.

Dealers will apply a free software patch to Prius cars. Customers will be notified when they can have their car repaired.

In addition, Toyota also announced on Friday a reminder for certain 2018 to 2019 Tundra vans and some Sequoia SUVs, as well as 2019 Avalon cars, to repair an air bag defect.

This recall involves approximately 188,000 people worldwide, including 168,000 in the United States.
