DETROIT (AP) – Toyota is reminiscent of a little over a million vehicles worldwide because airbags could deploy without an accident or not work if they existed one.

The recall involves approximately 17,000 Scion xA vehicles in the United States from 2004 to 2006. The Isis, Avensis, Avensis Wagon, Allex, Ist, Wish, Corolla, Corolla Spacio, Corolla Verso, Corolla Fielder, Corolla Corolla Runx and Sienta vehicles. The vehicles were built from July 2002 to June 2015.

Toyota said Thursday that a short circuit could damage the circuits. This could disable airbags and seat belt pretensioners or cause unintended deployment of these systems.

Dealers will replace the airbag control unit. The owners will be informed in December.

Toyota would not say if the problem caused accidents or injuries.
