Toyota has recalled more than a million vehicles because their air bags could inflate even if the car had not suffered a collision, or did not inflate.
The recall only concerns a small number of vehicles in the United States, specifically 17,000 Scion xA vehicles built between 2004 and 2006.
According to Toyota, the problem is caused by a short circuit in the vehicle that damages circuits that turn off the air bags or deploy them.
The other vehicles involved in the recall were mainly in Japan and Europe. These vehicles include the Isis, Avensis, Avensis Wagon, Allexist, Wish, Corolla, Corolla Spacio, Corollo Verso, Corolla Fielder, Corolla Runx and Sienta vehicles, built over a much longer period from July 2002 to June 2015., ABC News reports.
Owners of affected affected vehicles will be notified of the recall in December. Dealers will replace the airbag control unit for free in impacted vehicles.
Last month, the company recalled three million Prius hybrids because of a software problem that could result in the blockage of vehicles. This recall was one of Toyota's most important vehicle recalls of all time.
Toyota did not disclose whether this last recall had resulted in injuries or accidents.
