Hurricane Hunter found tropical storm Kirk a little weaker, although tropical storm conditions are expected in parts of Windward and Leeward Islands on Thursday.

At 11 pm, the center of Tropical Storm Kirk was 295 miles east-southeast of Martinique.

Kirk is not considered a threat to Florida right now, according to the National Meteorological Service.

Data from Hurricane Hunter's aircraft indicate that sustained maximum winds have decreased to near 50 mph, with higher gusts. A gradual weakening is expected over the next few days, but Kirk is expected to cross the Lesser Antilles and enter the eastern Caribbean Sea as a tropical storm.

There is little change in force until Kirk crosses the Lesser Antilles and weakens the eastern Caribbean Sea.

Tropical storm force winds extend up to 140 miles from the center.

Hazards affecting Kirk's land

WindTropical storm conditions should first reach the warning zone by Thursday afternoon, making outdoor preparations difficult or dangerous.

Tropical storm conditions are possible in the surveillance zone on Thursday afternoons or evenings.

RainKirk is expected to produce total rainfall of 4 to 6 inches across the North Windward and South Lee Islands with isolated maximums of up to 10 inches in Martinique and Dominica.

These rains can cause floods and mudslides that are life threatening.
