Train mows down crowd at India festival, at least 50 dead

– A commuter train on a high speed ran through a crowd on the tracks in northern India on Friday, killing at least 59 people, state officials said, making it India's worst rail disaster this year.

Singh declared a state of mourning and said all offices and educational institutions across the state would remain closed Saturday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was deeply saddened by the incident.

"The tragedy is heart-wrenching," he tweeted. "My deepest condolences to the families of those who have lost their loved ones and I pray that the injured recover quickly. Have asked officials to provide immediate assistance that is required. "
