A "minor" derailment at Penn Station on Thursday night caused a dragging effect all night and affected daily commutes on Friday morning. The train service in and out of Penn Station in New York is 30 minutes late.

The first trains of the Midtown direct line resumed with the Morris & Essex trains at 5:44 and Montclair-Boonton at 5:32.

Four trains have been canceled so far this morning because of the positive control of the trains.

Morris & Essex Line

The Summit Morris & Essex train at 8:56 am is canceled due to equipment availability. Commuters can take the 8:48 am train to Summit, leave at 8:56 and make additional stops.

The 7:07 Morris & Essex train departing from Penn Station New York is 40 minutes late due to availability of equipment.

Pascack Valley Line

Montclair-Boonton line

The Montclair-Boonton train at 5:53 am from the Montclair State University train has up to 20 minutes late due to an operational problem.

The 6:30 am Montclair-Boonton train from Montclair State University is canceled due to the availability of train control equipment. Commuters can take the 6:45 train from Montclair University and the 7:03 train from Montclair University.

Northeast Corridor Line

The Northeast Corridor train at 6:38 am from Penn Station in New York City is delayed due to crew availability.

The 8:26 northbound corridor train to Trenton is canceled due to the availability of train control equipment. Commuters can take the 8:56 train from Trenton.

The Northeast corridor train of 06:08 from Jersey Avenue is canceled due to the availability of train control equipment. Commuters can take the 6:25 train from Jersey Avenue.

North Jersey Coast Line

The North Jersey coastal rail line at 6:20 am from Penn Station New York is up to 35 minutes late due to anticipated equipment availability.

The North Jersey Shore line at 6:27 am from the Woodbridge train is 10 minutes late due to a late train.

The North Jersey Shore Line at 5: 40 from Bay Head is canceled due to the availability of train control equipment. Commuters can take the 6:07 train to Bay Head and the 6:35 Long Branch train.

Raritan Valley Line

Scheduled schedule changes

Starting October 14th, some trains will be temporarily interrupted or will undergo changes of origin / destination for the installation of PTC. This will affect customers along the north-east, north and north coast corridors, Morris & Essex, Montclair-Boonton and Main-Bergen-Port Jervis. The service should be fully reinstated by mid-January 2019. All tickets and passes for travel in November, December and January will receive a 10% discount.

Until early 2019, all Raritan Valley flights to one seat during off-peak hours will begin at Newark Penn Station to allow for the installation of positive train control systems.

All PATH stations between Christopher Street and 33rd Street will be closed every weekend between 11:59 pm. Friday and 5 am Monday to October 26th to complete PATH improvements. PATH will provide a free MetroCard for two limited-use trips only to the World Trade Center station. The MetroCard is only valid on the weekend at which it is issued. Hudson-Bergen light rail passengers will be honored 24 hours a day when Hoboken and Newport stations are closed.
